The KEF MUON is more than just a speaker; it is perhaps the most extraordinary audio system ever conceived by mankind, and at the same time a stunning, timeless aluminum sculpture.
This prestigious project represents the ultimate triumph of form and function. It is the result of a symbiosis of the unrivalled acoustic expertise of KEF engineers and the visionary aesthetics of world-renowned industrial designer Ross Lovegrove. The result is a sound system that pushes the boundaries of what is possible and is strictly limited to an exclusive worldwide edition of just 100 pairs.
The MUON speaker cabinet is made using advanced super-forming technology of hot-rolled aluminum (6 mm thick), which allows for a sensual, organic torso shape that is completely free of sharp edges and extremely rigid. Ross Lovegrove has truly "sculpted sound", because organic curves are not just an aesthetic masterpiece, but an acoustic necessity. The smooth, continuous lines of the cabinet prevent the refraction of sound waves (diffraction), which allows the sound to spread completely freely and naturally into space, creating a three-dimensional sound stage of unimaginable dimensions. The interior of the aluminum shell is additionally reinforced with complex cross-links and coated with damping compounds, which means that the speaker cabinet is completely acoustically inert - without any distortion or vibration, even at the highest volumes.
Acoustically, the MUON is a 4-way closed box system that offers an incredibly wide frequency bandwidth (from 25 Hz to 60 kHz). The sound reproduced by the MUON reaches deeper and higher than the human ear can normally register – extremely low bass frequencies are felt with the body, while ultra-high frequencies are perceived subconsciously, radically increasing the realism of the entire soundstage.
The speaker uses an impressive arsenal of drivers: 6 massive 250mm (10") woofers and one equally large bass-midrange driver provide a punchy yet surgically precise bass. Mid and high frequencies are handled by KEF's iconic and patented Uni-Q® speaker array, which combines a 125mm hybrid midrange and a 25mm aluminum tweeter with a tangerine sound guide in a single point source.
Another unique feature of the MUON model is the use of exclusive ACE (Acoustic Compliance Enhancement) technology. With the help of activated carbon inside, which temporarily binds air molecules to itself as the membranes move, the speaker virtually doubles the physical volume of the enclosure, allowing it to reproduce bass that would otherwise require a cabinet twice as large.
Each individual pair of MUON speakers is hand-built and precisely measured in KEF's ultra-precise anechoic chambers at our Maidstone workshop in the UK. Each speaker comes with an official certificate of authenticity with a unique frequency response curve, hand-signed by the master craftsman who assembled the system.
